Enjoyed reading this (there are a couple typos, ie: faced for face), but this story made me wonder where Kensington Market was. Could it be the neighborhood in San Diego where I worked for many years? There were lots of artists, musicians and bookstores on Adams Avenue. Anyway, look forward to reading Part II.

I'm glad you liked it, G! The second part will be up in a few minutes. And thanks for the typo alert: I'm much better at proofing other writers' work than my own.

The Kensington Market in the story is actually in Toronto, in the downtown west end. It started as an outdoor market for Jewish immigrants in the 1930s and grew from there into a food and import hub, with used-clothing outlets, army surplus and record stores, etc arriving for the low rents in 1970s and 80s. The punk and anarchist scenes also centred there for a long time. You can see the Market in its heyday in this opening of the CBC sitcom "King of Kensington" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zacsrdPwydw
